Game Of Thrones Prequel Begins Filming, Showrunner Confirms: Cast, Plot and More Revealed

While the main show Game Of Thrones finished this may, the much-anticipated prequel is on the way. And it might be sooner than we think.

The Pre-Game Of Thrones Era

The description reads, “It will follow the world’s “descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

The prequel spinoff is set thousands of years before Game of Thrones happened. “Westeros is a very different place [in the prequel],” said George RR Martin, working on the show.

Westeros

“There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world, and hopefully, that will be part of the fun of the series,” he continued.

Looks like this prequel series, possibly titled ‘The Long Night,’ will be interesting, unique and not at all repetitive of Game Of Thrones.

The People Behind It All

Showrunner Jane Goldman (previously worked on X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service) is leading the series with George RR Martin and director SJ Clarkson backing him up.

Emilia Clarke Game Of ThronesThe cast stars Naomi Watts of King Kong. According to HBO, she will play a “charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret in the drama pilot.” Naomi Ackie and Denise Gough will make for important members too. And most of the supporting roles will be played by Miranda Richardson, Jamie Campbell Bower, Josh Whitehouse, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo.

When Do We Get to See It?

Nothing much is known yet about the release. According to Entertainment Weekly, the prequel has begun filming in Northern Ireland. A number of scenes of Game of Thrones were also shot there, including the Red Wedding and The Battle of The Bastards.

But whenever it does come out, we can be sure that the series will be super exciting.
