The plight of migrants who wants to enter the US from the Mexican border was revealed many times with the help of one or another dramatic image. This time a photograph of a Guatemalan mother with her six-year-old son in her embrace while pleading to the Mexican National Guard member to let her cross the city border went viral.
Mother Begging To The Mexican National Guard Member
The image is depicting the July 22 incident which was captured by a photographer associated with Reuters news agency. On the day, at the border city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, a lady named Ledy Perez encountered the service member with her son to whom she reportedly wants to give a better future on the other side of the border.
Jose Luis Gonzalez’s photograph is showing Perez crying into the chest of son Anthony while crouching on a dusty road. She begged to the security official standing nearby with a hanging weapon around his shoulder. Gonzalez reported to Reuters that “The woman begged and pleaded with the National Guard to let them cross … she wanted to cross to give a better future” to her child.
The news outlet came with a view that the guard whose name is not in the knowledge didn’t come up with “overt aggression” towards the lady and her son. Reuters’ reports quoted a spokesman for Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador while claiming that the service member was giving the knowledge of dangers of crossing the border to Perez.
Did She Manage To Cross The border?
Reportedly, when the service guard was not looking, Perez with her son managed to cross the border. But according to Guatemalan officials, US border agents took them into custody.
Notably, Perez and her son Anthony were in good condition at U.S. Border Patrol station in New Mexico, as Tekandi Paniagua, Guatemala’s consul general in Del Rio, Texas, told Reuters.
