Innovation and technology seem to have no bounds in the present scenario. Google Assistant, which previously had access to your standard text messaging apps now can slide into your messages on WhatsApp, Slack, and Telegram.
Billions of mobile phone users relied on third party messaging systems as an avenue for online communication. The new feature provided by Google is aimed at easing the bother of individually reading and replying to messages on forums such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
These new features mean handing over access to notifications to your Google Assistant which is not a big deal but might be a spoiler for the super privacy-conscious folks. The increased vigilance by some tech users comes in the wake of Google being under the scanner for various privacy-related accusations.
A Belgium based public broadcaster VRT NWS accused Google of transcribing audio clips recorded by Google Assistant. Google also recorded audio without the use of the activation phrase “Okay Google,” which the authorities later explained to be background noises misinterpreted as the activation key phrase. Google has since agreed to pause their activity relating to transcribing voice recordings picked up in the European Union.
The new feature seems to be working well with WhatsApp, Telegram, and Slack, where it can manage multiple languages.
