The trailer for ‘Cats’ has come and taken the internet by storm.
Written and directed by Academy Award-winner Tom Hooper, the film is based on the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, itself an adaptation of the poem collection by legendary author T.S. Eliot.
The film will follow the journey of a cat tribe named the ‘Jellicles,’ and features an ensemble with superstars the likes of Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, and Jason Derulo.
The spotlight, though, has been firmly set on a yet another member of the star-studded line-up.
Making much of the two-minute trailer her very own, ballerina Francesca Hayward could be seen putting her skill on display to Jennifer Hudson’s iteration of ‘Memory.’
Hudson, portraying the cat named ‘Victoria,’ is a dancer for London’s Royal Ballet Company, and the age of just 27, is their principal dancer.
In 2010, she was awarded the Royal Ballet’s Young British Dancer of the Year award, and the Best Emerging Artist in 2014, before truly solidifying her success in the realm of ballet in 2016 after being bequeathed with the Best Female Dancer at the UK’s annual National Dance Awards.
Moreover, Hayward has starred in a plethora of literary adaptations for the stage, including roles as Princess Florine in The Sleeping Beauty, as the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, and as Juliet in Shakespeare’s famed magnum opus.
Taking to social media after the release of the trailer, Hayward said, ‘I’ve always just done ballet, and I feel like I’m sort of living the dream. It’s just very surreal for someone who doesn’t sing in public to suddenly be singing with Jennifer Hudson.
Distributed by Universal Pictures, Tom Hooper’s ‘Cats’ will release on the 20th of December, 2019.
