After the entire generation of millennials bid a tearful farewell to Lizzie McGuire, Disney revealed the cherished teen sitcom is officially getting a reboot, and Hilar Duff will reprise the titular character. The series which will stream exclusively on Disney+ will catch up with Lizzie as she takes on adulthood in the big Apple.
Lizzie (and her sassy, animated inner voice) was 13 years old when the world met her. But she will be in her 30s, when we see her next, Duff said. The series will be coming to the new streaming services Disney+, the company announced on their Twitter page. Fans are thrilled to see what happens when Duff becomes a show repeater.
What can we see expect from our beloved Lizzie? “Lizzie has grown up, she’s older, she’s wiser, she has much bigger shoe budget,” Hilary said from Disney D23 on Friday, August 23, where the news was made public. “She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working asana apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator.” Hilary also added that Lizzie is dating “The perfect man, who owns the fancy restaurant. She is getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.” but didn’t add its the legendary heartthrob Ethan, her pal Gordo, or someone else entirely.
She revealed that the project has been in the works for a while on her Instagram. “SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works!” she wrote.
The show’s original creator, Terri Minsky, is set to executive produce the reboot. It is currently unclear whether the show’s other lead cast members Lalaine, Adam Lamberg, Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd, and Robert Carradine will return. No production was provided, and it is unknown dates were provided, and it is unknown when the new series will launch on Disney+.
