Four months back, the new face of Batman was announced to be portrayed by Robert Pattinson. The 33-year-old English actor known for movies like The Twilight franchise, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Cosmopolis is all set to play the role of the masked vigilante in the DCEU. The character of Batman has been played so far by Adam West, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and many more. Finally, the mantle has been passed on to Pattinson.
The casting stirred up controversial opinions on social media, just like any other superhero casting for a superhero movie. But recently at Toronto International Film Festival, even Christian Bale mentioned that Pattinson is an excellent choice for Batman. Matt Reeves will direct the new standalone Batman movie. Ben Affleck, who previously portrayed Batman in the DCEU, was considered a little old for the role and hence the decision to recast was made.
Most of the movie and comic fans know that Joker is a personal nemesis of Batman. The Dark Knight from the Christopher Nolan trilogy was a stellar movie with path-breaking performances from both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. DC fans were hoping for a Batman and Joker face off again in the DCEU through Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Pattinson’s respective characters. Unfortunately, Todd Phillips, the director of Joker, has clearly denied that there won’t be a chance of Joker and Batman crossing paths in the DCEU. He shut down all rumors and possibilities of Joker and Batman appearing together in the DCEU. Todd Phillips is open to making a sequel to Joker but its best to not expect Robert Pattinson’s Batman to appear there, he said. The Batman is all set to release on June 25, 2021.
