Joaquin Phoenix is already lined up for Oscar as it has been widely anticipated that his upcoming movie Joker is an Oscar masterpiece. Phoenix is on the epitome of success, but he modestly owes all the attributes of his acting to late brother, River Phoenix. He believes that without his brother, he would have never been able to reach where he is now.
At the Toronto International Film Festival, He was one of the two artists, who were honored with Tribute Actor Awards. Joaquin felt emotional enough to share about people who have been with him on this journey constantly. The actor addressed the audience as he began “When I was 15 or 16 my brother River came home from work, and he had a VHS copy of a movie called Raging Bull, and he sat me down and made me watch it. And the next day he woke me up, and he made me watch it again. And he said, ‘You’re going to start acting again, this is what you’re going to do.’ He didn’t ask me, he told me. And I am indebted to him for that because acting has given me such an incredible life.”
The actor also spared time to thank his mother, father, and sister for being a part of his incredible journey. He said, “I feel overwhelmed with emotion because I’m just thinking about all the people that had such a profound influence on him. When I was watching those claps, I thought about my family. My sister’s Rain, Liberty, and Summer, who are still my best friends.”
Joaquin’s brother passed away at a very tender age of 23, of a drug overdose. River Phoenix was a rising star in Hollywood and was also a teen icon. He was found dead on the sidewalk of a nightclub in Hollywood. He was a part of some tremendous artistic pieces such as Stand By Me, My Own Private Idaho and Running on Empty. It was a tough year for Joaquin as well as his family, but the way Joaquin made his remarkable comeback, surely would have made River proud.
