Marvel has aimed to get Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld to join to ensemble Marvel family. If reports are to be true, she will be playing Kate Bishop opposite Jeremy Renner in the Disney+ Hawkeye series.
Jeremy Renner who has been portraying the character of “Hawkeye” since 2011, was seen essaying the superhero in “Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Avengers: Endgame” was his latest one. He also made an un-credited cameo in Thor. “The Hollywood Reporter” confirmed the news of Hailee Steinfeld being part of the upcoming Marvel project.
Steinfeld will be portraying the character of the fictional heroine Kate Bishop who is trained by Clint Barton played by Renner. Both the characters are part of a group called Young avengers. Barton trains her hard to fight against crime, and her power instrument is bow and arrow. The character of Kate Bishop was first featured on 2005’s Marvel’s Comics “Young Avengers No 1”. The character was created by none other than “Wonder Woman” screenwriter Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung. Once again the character got a place in 2012’s Hawkeye comic book, where she was seen getting trained under Barton.
In the Comic book, Bishop was said to take up the mantle of the archer from Ronin. Ronin is an Earth-based cover identity that is used by a lot of superheroes on their costumes. Ally Echo first wore ronin costume in “Daredevils.” It was eventually passed on to Clint Barton or the Hawkeye following his death and later restoration by the hands of Scarlet Witch.
Steinfeld won an honorary Oscar nomination for her 2010 film “True Gift.” Later she got associated with another Oscar-winning film when she lent her voice for the Oscar-winning MCU film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.”
This new Disney+ Hawkeye series which is part of multiple projects under Phase 4 is scheduled to get its online release in 2021.
