The Crown famed Helena Bonham Carter has reportedly held seances on its sets to communicate with the spirit of Princess Margaret. The actor who plays Queen’s sister in the third season of the Netflix blockbuster show wanted to get the role approved from the Princess herself before playing it.
As per a report of Britain’s The Sun newspaper, Carter, now an Oscar-nominated actor was just a “fledgling movie star” when she met Countess of Snowdon (Princess Margaret) at a royal movie premiere and the fact that the latter made such an impact on the actor made it especially important to get her blessing. If reports are to be believed, Bonham Carter received tips from the Princess’s spirit on how she held her cigarette and cigarette holder.
“She even passed on her advice to cast and crew on set whenever there was a query regarding the princess,” the source added, claiming she would have sessions with a medium who told her: ”Oh yes, Margaret’s here, fingering her pearls.”
The 53-year-old actor takes over the role that was previously played by Vanessa Kirby. The Netflix show that is due to return on November 17th will also feature Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth alongside a cast that includes Tobias Menzies, Josh O’Connor, and Emerald Fennell. Following the suit the third season will most likely be comprised of 10 episodes, taking the total count to 30. With the early years of Queen Elizabeth II already covered in the previous two seasons, fans may expect to get a glimpse of Queen’s post-1964 life. While the creator Peter Morgan has remained tight-lipped on what to expect, a quick look at the Royal Family’s history reveals to us what we shall probably expect.
The season will likely feature the era in which Queen Elizabeth II worked closely with newly elected Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Britain’s first female PM Margaret Thatcher might also appear, but likely towards the end of the third season if not the fourth.
This next series of episodes may as well portray on screen the eight-year affair of Princess Margaret with baronet Roddy Llewellyn.
Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, was the younger daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and the only sibling of Queen Elizabeth II. She died in 2002.
