James Cameron Says Avengers Endgame’s Box Office Figures Gives Him Hope for Avatar 2


This year Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame broke an all-time record by grossing $2.796 billion at the box office. Avengers: Endgame was the most anticipated movie of 2019 after fans were left heartbroken and confused following the events of Avengers: Infinity War. It was the 2009 movie Avatar which held the position of the highest-grossing movie in the world with a box office collection of $2.789 billion.  Fans of Marvel all around the world celebrated this news, creating fan art, memes, tribute videos, and so much more. Disney definitely had a field day as it had done extensive marketing campaigns for Avengers: Endgame.

James Cameron, the visionary director of Avatar who has delivered phenomenal and impeccable movies like Titanic, The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Aliens, and many more, posted on social media congratulating the Russo Brothers. The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony, who are fans of James Cameron, thanked him for inspiring them and opening the world’s eyes to see what is possible. The Russo Brother have also directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War previously for Marvel Studios. Fans were enthralled and starstruck by this social media interaction between these legendary filmmakers.

Currently, the 65-year-old Canadian filmmaker is working on Avatar 2 which is planned for a release on 17 December 2021. He also plans to make Avatar 3, Avatar 4, and Avatar 5. They all are scheduled to release in 2023, 2025 and 2027 respectively. Recently in an interview, he said that Avengers: Endgame breaking his movie’s ten-year record gives him relief and hope.

He mentioned that there is hope for the audience and fans to still flock to theatres and watch movies. In this digital age, with streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and the upcoming Disney+ along with the threat of movie piracy, James Cameron still has faith for his forthcoming movies, seeing movies like Avengers: Endgame breaking records and making history. He said it is proof that people will still go to theatres. Avatar 2 is the second movie under the Avatar franchise. It had entered production and started preliminary shooting in August 2017 at Manhattan Beach, California.
