Joker director Todd Philips recently clarified that Joaquin Phoenix starring film is not connected to the extended universe of the DC world.
According to Comicbook.com, the director’s comment came out during the Toronto International Film Festival. Phillips During a Q&A session with the fans explained about the same:” It’s not really connected to that [ DC Movie] universe. He further added:” And it was really intentionally not. I mean the original idea when I went to [Warner Bros] the idea was not just about one movie, but about a label – sort of a side label to DC, where you can do this type of character study, low-rent, low-budget film. Where you get a filmmaker to come in and do some deep dive into the character. So it was never meant to connect, So I don’t see it relating to anything in the future. I think this is just this movie, you know?”
When “Variety,” asked the director about any possible crossover of the character in the upcoming Batman Movie, Todd firmly denied any such possibilities by saying:” No, definitely not.” For a lot of DC fans, this confirmation has led to a serious letdown. Most of the films in either of the two universes of Marvel or DC has been a crossover event, like “Avengers” in Marvel world and “Justice League” in the DC world to name just a few.
“Joker” has been getting a lot of applauds from both the fans and critics alike, even before its actual theatrical release. The film won the “Golden Lion” award at the Venice Film Festival. It is considered as of the prestigious awards in the world of cinema. “Joker” is set to hit you your nearest theaters on October 4.
