Director and co-writer, Todd Philips revealed that Joker actor, Joaquin Phoenix would sometimes walk off the set in the middle of scenes.
Apparently, the forty-four-year-old actor lost his composure on the sets of the superhero film.
Phoenix, a three-time Oscar nominee, has reportedly, lost 52 pounds for his role in the dark drama movie. Furthermore, he recently won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.
“In the middle of the scene, he’ll just walk away and walk out. And the poor other actor thinks it’s them and it was never them it was always him, and he just wasn’t feeling it”, said the director Todd Philips to New York Times.
Robert De Niro, who stars as a late-night show host in the movie, was the one person that Phoenix never walked out on. De Niro was quoted saying, “Joaquin was very intense in what he was doing, as it should be, as he should be.” He also said that that the Batman Villain was a ‘consummate professional.’
Reportedly, Phoenix had a hard time as he saw the character he originally signed in to play, to change and evolve as the production went on, which meant that he had to adapt along with fictional Arthur Fleck to keep up.
Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Philips worked together for months before the production of Joker started. Before Phoenix had officially signed on to the movie, it was rumored that Leonardo DiCaprio was going to play Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime.
Some sites also state that Phoenix was so involved and into the skin of his character, that he learned how to apply his own clown makeup and even started a journal, in which he penned down all the jokes and one-liners that appear in the movie.
Joker is set to roll out in theatres on October 4, 2019.
