Renowned singer and songwriter, Elton John, revealed that he had tried to take life once. Decades ago, after a failed love.
In his memoir, ‘Me: Elton John’, to be released on October 15, 2019, he’s opened up about quite a lot of his personal and life-changing moments in his autobiography. Including his suicide attempt.
Metro UK reported a few words from one of his chapters. In which John iterates how his personal life was in shambles due to his insecurities.
‘As well as taking drugs, my personal life had been, more or less, a disaster. I didn’t pick them up so much as take them hostage.’ he wrote, ‘I had been completely wrong when I thought that changing my name meant I’d changed as a person. I wasn’t Elton, and I was Reg [Reginald Kenneth Dwight: his real name]. And Reg was still the same as he’d been 15 years ago, hiding in his bedroom while his parents fought: insecure and body-conscious and self-loathing. I didn’t want to go home to him at night. If I did, the misery could be all-consuming.’
He further explained how he had been abusing drugs for a while. One night, when John had overdosed, while at Caribou Studios, was the night, he felt like ending his life. Though he’s sure what led to that thought, and that he couldn’t remember much of that night anyway.
‘I can’t remember what exactly prompted me to do that,’ he shared, ‘although it was probably some catastrophic love affair gone wrong.‘
He further went on to share how his relationships were frivolous and short-lived. Adding, how quickly he used to get ‘bored’ of them.
Though, as of now, the 72-year old is happily married to David Furnish, raising two kids, Zachary and Elijah.
