A former cop in Ewing, New Jersey, killed his 3-month-old daughter while her mother recklessly watched her die last year in December 2018. Now the couple has been convicted of the murder by Mercer County.
The 31-year-old Ewing Township police officer Daniel Bannister has been now charged with first-degree murder of his child. The mother, who watched silently, will also be convicted with the manslaughter charge while the couple will face child endangerment charges involving of 3-month-old, Hailey Bannister. Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri announced the charges on Friday.
Back on December 5, 2018, the authorities received a call from an Ewing Township about a toddler who was left unresponsive and had difficulty in breathing. Hailey was then quickly rushed to Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell. The doctors at the institution revealed that the girl has severe head injuries, bleeding in the brain, and multiple fractures in the ribs. The doctors proposed to take the girl to Robert Wood Johnson Children’s Hospital. She was pronounced dead on December 11 at the Robert Wood Johnson Children’s Hospital.
The authorities at the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office suspected something unusual regarding the death of the girl. The autopsy claimed that she died due to head trauma. The authorities developed suspicion against the Bannisters if they had abused the little girl. The father and former cop were suspended from the Police Department in December, and neighbor claimed that he was unnecessarily angry towards local people.
Bannister was arrested in July at an Ewing Wawa store. The date for his sentence hasn’t been revealed.
