Recently, certain personal facts have come into a spot about singer and actress Whitney Houston. Her best friend Robyn Crawford was in an interview where she revealed that she and Whitney Houston were together in a physical relationship. This was during the early years of their friendship. This news had stirred up controversial remarks from fans of Whitney Houston all over the world, as well as LGBTQ artists. Crawford mentioned that they both wanted to be together, just them.
However, Houston ended their physical relationship after she signed a record deal with Clive Davis at Arista. Houston gifted Crawford a slate blue Bible and broke the news to her. Houston implied that they shouldn’t indulge in a physical relationship anymore since it will only make their lives more difficult. This was in 1982, a time when homophobia was the norm in the USA. A gay woman of color and an artist in Hollywood were dangerous traits for a person then. It would absolutely explain why Houston decided to put an end to their relationship.
But, recently, actress Kristen Stewart opened up about her struggles of being a gay woman in Hollywood. She mentioned that she was told she wouldn’t get any Marvel movie in the future if she keeps holding hands with her girlfriend in public. This was just a few months back. Things like these really bring the status of the LGBTQ community to reality.
Whitney Houston is one of the most important and prominent figures in Black history. She signed her first label at the age of 19. Her iconic song I Will Always Love You became the best selling single by a woman in music history. She even won a Grammy for that song. She also starred in the famous movie The Bodyguard along with Kevin Costner, which marked her acting debut.
