Just ten months after the launch of Crackdown 3, rumors are that a sequel, possibly named Crackdown 4, may already be in development. Sumo Digital, the developer of Crackdown 3, recently began recruiting for its next project.
Recently, the company has posted a variety of jobs on the Sumo Digital website, with the majority of them in the Art and Coding department. In early 2019, the studio led the development of several games like Crackdown 3 and Team Sonic Racing. They also assisted NetherRealm Studios on Mortal Kombat 11.
After years of switching and being passed from one developer to another, Crackdown 3 was finally released by Sumo Digital in 2019.
Because of the strong partnership between Xbox and Sumo Digital, fans are speculating that Sumo Digital’s next game, preferably Crackdown 4, will be an Xbox exclusive. The two have worked together on several productions in recent years. Sumo Digital assisted other Xbox studios with Forza Horizon 4, Forza Motorsports 4, Forza Motorsports 3, and Forza Horizon 2.
Although the developer recently worked on the Crackdown franchise, it is also speculated that Sumo Digital might create a game on another distinguished Xbox franchise. Under the authority of the Chief Game Designer – Sumo Nottingham, the company emphasized that the applicant for the jobs must have “a passion for racing games of all kinds.” Even though it is not confirmed, it does point towards the fact that the team may be lead the development in one of the next installments of the Forza series.
In the last few years, Turn Ten Studios, and Playground Games developed the Forza games, with the former leading development on the Forza Motorsports titles while the latter developed the Forza Horizon games. Recent rumors point to Playground Games developing a new game in the Fable franchise, which might leave an opening for another studio to take the lead in the development of the Forza Horizon series.
