The new Army Chief of India, General MM Naravane, has stated that the Indian Army was and will always be ready to carry out operations in Pakistan occupied Kashmir if asked by the Government. In an interview to a news channel, the General pointed out that he had chalked out several plans for operations in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. He also added that the Indian Army was ready to execute the plans and strategies made by him. Moreover, he said that they were ready to undertake ‘any task.’
The Army Chief said that there was personnel deployed all along the International Border and the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. He was asked by the interviewer about the feasibility of military operations in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The question was pertaining to the context of comments made by top government officials about reclaiming the territory.
The Government of India has publicly announced two of its major operations involving Pakistan occupied Kashmir as well as Pakistan. The recent scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status has led to many top government officials commenting that PoK will soon be made a physical part of India. The Army Chief clarified that that army was ready for any step which must come under mandate during the action.
General Naravane took charge as the Chief of the Indian Army Staff on December 31, 2019. Since his posting, he has stressed the need to pay attention and enhance more capabilities on the China front too. He also said that addressing human rights is a very key factor.
