The filmmaker James Gunn himself recently revealed that he did turn down an opportunity to direct a Superman film for The Suicide Squad.
James Gunn said that the studio gave him a free hand, Warner Bros, to choose the film he would like to get involved with and that he decided to opt for the anti-heroes ensemble project, in a recent Instagram question and answer session with a fan.
There were reports doing rounds that stated, that Gunn was offered the Man of Steel sequel, instead of which the latter chose The Suicide Squad. The filmmaker posted on his Instagram story, saying that among all projects allotted to him by DC was a film about Superman and not the sequel to Man of the Steel starred by Henry Cavill.
Gunn stated that The Suicide Squad was one among his favorite properties in the world and that it was solely the reason behind him choosing The Suicide Squad. He added that the Suicide Squad was the story he wanted to tell more than any other.
The Suicide Squad is a stand-alone sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 film, ‘Suicide Squad’ that starred Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Davidson, Alice Braga, Micheal Rooker, Taika Waititi among others.
The Suicide Squad was a fantasy Sci-Fi in which an intelligence officer assembles the team of imprisoned super Villans to execute dangerous Black ops missions. Meanwhile, the homicidal Joker Launches a diabolical Agenda of his own.
The David Ayer directed ‘Suicide Squad’ in the year 2016, has made a box office collection of $ 74.68 crores. The film also won the Academy Award for best makeup, and hairstyling can vary among the others.
The sequel to The film has a release date of August 6, 2021. We can only hope that the sequel would be as glad as/ even better than the prequel.
So rumors about him being a part of Man of steel was just a bluff, and he was surely offered another Superman Project. But the Suicide Squad can and will be released soon as the director has already started working on it. All we can hope is that it would be an exciting year ahead.
