The charges related to hate crimes were filed to a man in Oregon after he brutally thrashed and immigrant 70-year-old Indian woman after entering a motel owned by the woman.
The 70-year-old woman was battered by the man on December 31 at the Hub Motel in Redmond, Oregon, which is according to reports jointly owned by the woman along with her husband. The husband is also an immigrant from India, who was devastated after discovering the horrible news that featured his wife.
The man identified as James Lamb after his arrest told the officers that he wanted to rid the United States with a woman like her. Due to such, upsetting comments, the man was charged with bias counts. Also, for assaulting the woman, he was charged with attempt to murder.
The husbands spoke to the local news outlet following the incident and confirmed that his wife would eventually survive the violent attack. Also, he mentioned that they were both US citizens and been living in the country for more than a decade. The woman sustained horrible injuries all across her body that included broken shoulder, black eye, and lacerations in the throat.
If the assault had occurred a few years back, then Lamb wouldn’t have bias charges filed against him. Thanks to the new bill (hate crime law) that was passed recently in the Oregon legislature. Now, if only a man is involved in harming the other person depending on the victim’s race, color, or nationality, the defendant will be charged the bias counts. This wasn’t the same a few years ago; to define charges related to bias counts, it was possible only if two or more people maltreated the victim with such ill motivations.
