In recent years, the numbers of sexual abuse and assault have been growing more briskly and it doesn’t seem to be reduced as per the latest findings. It may seem horrible to mention but, the young children are themselves responsible for snowballing the rate of child sex abuse in this context. The recent reports from The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) mentioned that every third image uploaded to the Internet are self-generated by the children, especially girls, aged between 11 and 13.
This situation has emerged as a trend in which, those children in that age group mostly savors for more likes by uploading disturbing graphic content. The report claimed that the numbers last year were increasing aggressively. According to the data, 260,400 web pages in 2019 were reported for displaying graphic content depicting sexual abuse and issues and 132,700 web pages from them involved the young children.
The more distressing is, according to Susie Hargreaves OBE, the chief executive from the IWF, the third images uploaded to these websites are originally generated from the children themselves. Also, kids, these days are too obsessed with getting more numbers of likes, and in the process, they involve in these abuses knowingly or unknowingly. Children, especially girls, while uploading, assures her viewers that she would do this and do that if she receives the number of likes aimed by her.
Hargreaves mentioned that another instance is when the girls allegedly use a digital platform to involve romantically with their boyfriends. While streaming their video online, these girls aren’t informed by her atrocious boyfriends that they are recording and eventually sharing it with various pedophile rings.
The involvement of girls in the videos is around 80 percent and IWF removed around 132,000 web pages only last year. Hargreaves told that they forgot the fact the images included every other child and not just girls. It was just that the number was so huge that they couldn’t.
