November 2019 saw Netflix achieve a new milestone: the release of its first Thai original, The Stranded. A horror/sci-fi show, The Stranded follows a conventional plot that would be familiar to most young adult viewers of Netflix: a band of teens abandoned in a deserted locale, having to fend for themselves while simultaneously looking for a way to escape from the mysterious forces that threaten to consume them. This is the cliche plot that is expected from a young adult thriller. However, The Stranded stands out in that it has a genuinely eerie vibe, stellar performances by its cast, and memorable characters. Read on to find out our take on the (possible) second season of this creepy high school drama.
The Stranded arrived on Netflix on the 15th of November, 2019, with seven episodes. The show received favorable reviews. However, it has not been renewed for a second season. There have been no new updates for the show’s renewal either, and we do not know if it will return. More updates will emerge as time passes. Fans should keep their fingers crossed.
Since the show has not been renewed for a second season yet, we do not know who will feature in it, in case it does return. However, most of the cast members from the show’s first season are expected to reprise their roles. These include Papangkorn Lerkchaleampote as Kraam, Chutawut Phatrekampol as Anan, Oabnithi Wiwattanawarang as Joey, Chayanit Chansangavej as May, among others.
The end of Season 1 saw Kraam discover the true nature of the island: that it is, in fact, a gateway to another dimension, something Professor Lin had told him. However, it is unknown what kind of dimension the gate leads to, and why the students are trapped in it. Hopefully, the second season, if it arrives, will provide answers to these questions.
