Atypical: What’s it all about?

Atypical follows Sam (played by Keir Gilchrist), a 19-year-old on the autism spectrum as he searches for what everyone else craves – love. His journey of self-discovery is both funny and emotional. The character has got quite a massive fan following.

The series hasn’t been among those who have been swamped by Emmy and other accolades. But being one of those very few Netflix comedy series which have had a fourth outing, the series has made its mark.

Atypical is all set to return to Netflix. Netflix has announced that the series has been renewed for another season. The new series will be there by next year, and there have been reports that this will be the final outing. The fourth installment will have ten episodes. And it will be the final chapter for the coming-of-age series.

The creator/executive producer, Robia Rashid, told Deadline: “I’m thrilled we’ll be doing a season four of Atypical. And while I’m so sad to be nearing the end of this series, I am extremely grateful to have been able to tell this story”.

The show’s popularity saw no signs of ebbing. The makers realized the trend and announced the renewal just a few months after the series’ third outing.

The official release date hasn’t been announced yet. But fans will have to wait until next year for the new series to premiere. Nevertheless, the news of more episodes has brought excitement among the fans.

CAST

Kier Gilchrist will return as the main character Sam Gardner, a teenager who has autism and is obsessed with Antarctica. Jennifer Jason Leigh joins him will join him as Elsa Gardner, Sam’s overprotective mother.

Brigette Lundy-Paine stars as Casey Gardner, Sam’s younger sister. Amy Okuda portrays Sam’s therapist  Julia Sasaki.

The legacy of the show is far more than the number of awards it has won. The show, which runs around bringing out the voice of an autistic child, sends the message that all such views are there within us. They also tell us that they matter, and they deserve to be heard. The makers have done their best at portraying them through Sam both emotionally and humorously. Let’s hope that their final venture will be the best out of all their outings.
